‘Spider-Man’ Animated Film Casting Call Confirms Miles Morales As Lead

Sony Pictures Animation's 'Spider-Man' casting call appears to confirm earlier reports that Miles Morales will be the lead character of the film.

With fans eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, attention towards Sony’s animated Spider-Man film had been diverted for a short while. Now, Backstage has released a casting call for a project titled “Cabin Fever” that is in fact the code name for Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming animated Spider-Man feature, which appears to confirm Heroic Hollywood’s earlier report that Miles Morales will be the lead character in the film.

ComicBookMovie.com reports that the casting call for the role of Terrence is described as follows:

A young African-American/Puerto Rican teen from Brooklyn; he is new to this suburban school and now feeling out of place, overwhelmed, pressured with new responsibilities, and dealing with puberty; while trying to fit in he must do his best to stay out of trouble; along the way in developing his identity he’s losing old friends but now making a new one, Pete.

This description is remarkably to similar to the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales, created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli.

Though fans may speculate that the role of Pete may be referring to the character Peter Parker, ComicBookMovie.com’s report on the Spider-Man casting call appears to contradict that belief. The casting call describes the role as follows:

A young, slighgtly geeky, Asian-American teen; he’s smart, sweet, and encouraging; although very unlike any of the friends Terrence had in his old Brooklyn neighborhood, Pete proves to be a good fit for Terrence making good decisions.

Written and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Untitled Animated Spider-Man film will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.
