Sony Could Break From Marvel Deal If ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Doesn’t Cross $1 Billion

Sony Pictures may not have to share Spider-Man with Marvel Studios beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home if the new Tom Holland-led sequel fails to cross the billion-dollar mark the worldwide box office.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is already well on its way to crossing the billion-dollar mark thanks to already passing the $500 million mark in its first weekend after getting a headstart and opening early last Tuesday for the fourth of July. But in the latest edition of The Ankler, Richard Rushfield reveals that Sony could get out of co-producing another Spider-Man film with Marvel Studios, and take the wall-crawler all back to itself if the film fails to cross the billion-dollar mark: According to Rushfield:

“The original Sony/Marvel/Spidey deal to co-produce these movies stipulated that if this Spidey cleared a billion, Marvel would get to oversee a third. If it hadn’t, full control would have reverted back to Sony.”

For now, it’s looking like a third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland co-produced by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios is a safe bet. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
