‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Trailer Includes First Mention Of Uncle Ben

Uncle Ben has had his first official reference in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of the teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Some in fandom have pointed out that since Peter’s first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, there hasn’t been a reference to Uncle Ben. Even in Homecoming, he wasn’t a part of the conversation. Though as it’s been stated since the lead up to Homecoming, Uncle Ben is already familiar to the general audience due to his death and influence on Peter being seen twice between the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films and the Marc Webb Amazing Spider-Man films.

So there wouldn’t be a real need at this point to reference a character that audiences may have a general familiarity with at this point. But the trailer for Far From Home does have a quick reference to Ben. As you’ll quickly notice in the trailer, Peter’s suitcase has the initials “BFP,” a reference to Ben Parker. It’s quick, but a nice acknowledgement of the fact that Peter’s other mentor figure is still very much a part of his life. Here, check out the brief acknowledgement of Ben in the tweet below.

While not spoken, the reference does enough to hopefully cement in people’s minds that Uncle Ben remains an influence in Peter’s life after his death. Plus, this actually did make it into the film in comparison to the cut line from Homecoming in regards to Ben’s clothing. Still, what do you think of the quick nod to Uncle Ben in Far From Home? Do you still hope for a name drop or would you prefer all hints and references to him in the MCU remain more subtle? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Micheal Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, Acar, J. B. Smoove, Oli Hill, Remy Hii and Hemky Madera.

The film will swing into theaters on July 5, 2019.
