Long before the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, “leaked” audition tapes suggested a new version of Gwen Stacy was going to appear in the film. However, when asked about the alleged Gwen Stacy audition tapes, director Jon Watts stated he has “no idea what those are.”
Further rumors claimed Norman Osborn and the Sinister Six were going to make an appearance or be set up for future installments. While Jon Watts revealed working with Marvel feels like all ideas are “on the table,” the inclusion of the Sinister Six in Spider-Man: Far From Home was not discussed:
“We never talked about that for this film. It’s just a question of what is the best idea for the story we are telling. Hopefully, the best idea always wins but what’s exciting about working with Marvel is that you feel like every idea is always on the table.”
In the comics, Gwen Stacy was a college student and love interest for Peter Parker before she was killed by the Green Goblin. The Spider-Gwen comics depict an alternate universe where Gwen Stacy takes on the superhero identity of Spider-Woman after being bitten by a radioactive Spider instead of Peter Parker.
The Sinister Six, on the other hand, are a supervillain group originally assembled by Doctor Octopus. The original Sinister Six roster consisted of Doc Ock, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, and Vulture.
