‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’: Tom Holland On Stark & Aunt May Romance

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' director Jon Watts and Tom Holland discuss the possibility of romance between Tony Stark/Iron Man & Aunt May.

Captain America: Civil marked Spider-Man‘s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark/Iron Man recruited a young Peter Parker to join him on a mission to detain the Winter Soldier. The film also featured the MCU debut of Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, whom Tony Stark took an immediate interest in, prompting fans to wonder if an Aunt May/Tony Stark romance was blossoming. At CinemaCon, Yahoo raised the question with director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland, who was quick to close the door on any romance between Tony and May.

Watts played coy when asked if  there could be romance between Tony and May.

“I think there’s always a chance when you have Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.”

Holland offered a more definitive answer on the matter.

“No, no, no, no. I thought after Civil War that maybe that could happen, but not anymore.”

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Directed by Jon Watts, the film stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, Kenneth Choi, Hannibal Buress, Martin Starr, Michael Barbieri, Angourie Rice, Abraham Attah, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released in theaters on July 7, 2017.
