Spidey’s New Symbol In Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man’ Has A Purpose

The new Spider-Man title from Insomniac has been heaped with praise, but some dislike the hero's logo. The developer explains that there's a reason for it.

While there’s a lot of good buzz surrounding the Spider-Man title from Insomniac Games, the logo on Spider-Man’s costume has been met with mixed reception due to being much larger than it usually is and white instead of black. However, the developer noted that there’s absolutely a reason for it being a part of this take on the wall-crawler, and there’s more to it than just being part of the costume design.

More footage of the new Spider-Man title was shown at E3, featuring all kinds of kinetic action and fun, with impressions suggesting that this might be the best Spider-Man game yet. However, not everyone was pleased, but not for the reasons one would typically think – a fan took to Twitter to voice his grievances with the costume, and surprisingly enough he got a diplomatic reply from Insomniac.

Insomniac has previously mentioned that the departure from a more traditional take on the character’s design has a specific purpose, although that was before we got an in-depth look at gameplay. While they still have yet to show what the deal is with the addition to Spidey’s threads, that there’s an in-game explanation for them suggests that it could be part of a game mechanic they aren’t ready to showcase just yet.

Spider-Man will be released in 2018 exclusively for the PS4.
