‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ Webs Up $200 Million Global Gross

Thwip! Things are going quite well for Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film, which has now passed the $200 million mark at the global box office. The animated Spider-Man adventure starring Miles Morales and his Amazing Friends had a strong start at the box office a few weeks back. Despite a string of newcomers in the form of AquamanBumblebee, and Mary Poppins ReturnsInto the Spider-Verse held strong and brought in $18 million this past weekend. The animated feature came in fourth behind the aforementioned trio of AquamanMary Poppins, and Bumblebee, but has so far managed to fight off newcomers to maintain its spot in the top five films of the weekend.

Domestically, Into the Spider-Verse has $103.6 million. Combined with the current $109.6 million from the international market, Sony’s animated Spider-Man film is doing quite… amazing, if you will. Spectacular, even. And chances are if the film continues to hold, those domestic and international numbers will look even better. Between Sony’s plans for a sequel and building out its live-action universe with Venom and beyond, things are looking bright for the wall-crawler. Minus getting dusted in Avengers: Infinity War, anyway.

How high do you think Into the Spider-Verse will go, though? Do you think the animated Spider-Man feature has a shot at maybe the $300 million mark when its theatrical run has ended? Let us know your thoughts on this and more in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates on Into the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman and features voice work from Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin.

The film is now playing in theaters.
