‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’: Michael Keaton Talks Marvel & Tom Holland

Michael Keaton is back in the superhero world, but this time he’s not playing Batman, Gotham City’s defender. Keaton, who ironically played Birdman in Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), about a washed up actor who once played a superhero, is now playing Vulture, the villain, in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Keaton, who is not at all a washed up actor, was speculated to be playing the Vulture before it was confirmed. During an interview on the press tour for his latest film, The Founder, Keaton discussed how Batman and Vulture weren’t really all that different.

“Batman was also a borderline vigilante too. It is just another role that just happens to be in a big, fun, great-looking superhero movie.”

The actor also spoke highly about what he called the “Marvel Machine.”

“[It’s] pretty amazing once you step into that. I hadn’t done a Marvel movie and they are so good at how they run things. It’s impressive.”

Playing the villain opposite Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Keaton complimented the young actor, saying that he’s a “good guy.”

“He is a really good guy. I just worked with Dylan O’Brien [on the upcoming thriller American Assassin] and they are around the same age, I would say, and they are both such good guys to work with. Tommy is a good kid.”

Speaking of Birdman, Keaton did bring something… or rather, someone with him from that film, which was Keaton’s stunt double.

“The person they had me use for in Birdman, for a few things, he was so good they brought him along for Spider-Man.“

Spider-Man: Homecoming is in theaters July 7, 2017.
