Rothman appeared as a guest on “The Q&A with Rodney Rothman” podcast, where he shared some new tidbits on the Oscar-nominated film. Rothman revealed a hilarious Spider-Ham joke tested very well in screenings, but the filmmakers ultimately decided to cut it because they felt is was just a “bad laugh.” However, Rothman did reveal the scrapped scene during the podcast:
“The way that scene [originally] went is Noir said he lost his Uncle Benjamin, Peter lost Uncle Ben, and Gwen lost Peter. We went through everyone. Spider-Ham said he lost his Uncle Frankfurter. And then he said, ‘He was electrocuted, and it smelled so good.’”
Rothman also revealed a joke with Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland was featured in an early version of the script. The Spider-Verse co-director didn’t share the details of this scene but said it was cut because there were concerns about confusing people with so many Spider-Men.
