‘Spider-Man’ Spin-Off News On The Way

It’s only a matter of months before Sony unveil their collaboration with Marvel Studios, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The latest version of the webhead debuted in Captain America: Civil War to extremely positive reviews, so Sony are rightfully capitalizing on the hype surrounding the character.

How are they going to do this? By making spin-off projects based on characters from the Spidey universe. Tom Rothman, Chairman of Sony’s Motion Picture Group, revealed to Collider that news regarding Spider-Man spin-offs will be released soon enough. There’s no confirmation as of yet, but speculation suggests Venom will be the subject of the first spin-off.

There’s no word as to whether Sony will produce these movies independent from Marvel, or whether they’ll continue to work with Kevin Feige to help world-build. After seeing Sony’s track record with movies based on the web-crawler, we hope they continue to work with Marvel if Civil War is anything to go by.

Rothman also confirmed what we already knew about the film’s development:

“It’s fabulous. We’re really excited about it, we wrapped filming the new Spider-Man about a week ago. There’s a little pick-up shooting being done now but [it’s] pretty much done. It’s fantastic.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 7, 2017.
