‘The Walking Dead’ Star Chandler Riggs Talks Missing Out On Spider-Man Role

During an appearance at San Jose Fan Fest, former The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs discussed his audition for Spider-Man and praised Tom Holland’s performance as the wall-crawler.

After Marvel and Sony reached a landmark agreement to include Spider-Man in the MCU films, an extensive search for a new actor to portray Peter Parker began and The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs was among the many young actors who audition for the coveted role. While Tom Holland was ultimately cast as the web-head, Riggs explained that there are no hard feelings over not being chosen to play the character:

“I auditioned for Spider-Man, I thought that would have been cool. But it’s okay, it’s okay”

In fact, Chandler Riggs praised Tom Holland’s take on the wall-crawler:

“But Tom Holland, he does such an amazing job as Spider-Man, he’s seriously amazing. It’s awesome. I watched Homecoming a few weeks ago and he’s so funny, and like so perfect for the role, it’s really well done.”

Tom Holland will reprise his role in a sequel to Homecoming.

The film also features the classic Marvel villain Mysterio, who was introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #13. The most well-known incarnation of Mysterio is a special effects wizard named Quentin Beck and the character has been a frequent foe for the web-head since his debut.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Cobie Smulders, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Numan Acar, J.B. Smoove, Oli Hill, and Remy Hii.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in theaters on July 5, 2019.
