In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) ends up killing Snoke with the original Skywalker lightsaber and cuts him in half. The earlier-than-expected killing of Snoke was one of the more polarizing elements of the film – in an otherwise already-polarizing movie.
Andy Serkis recently revealed in an interview that he was deeply surprised that Snoke was killed off so early:
“It was a bit of a shock, but I could see exactly why they were going that route, and I think it was a huge surprise in the middle of the film. But I really loved the scene where Rey plays with Snoke. That scene was a fantastic. I just wish he’d survived, but who knows?”
With Snoke now (likely) out of the picture, Kylo Ren is now the Supreme Leader of the First Order – much to the dismay of General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson). With Star Wars: Episode IX set to conclude the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga next year, we’ll find out how everything turns out following the events of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
