According to Production Weekly, production on the Cassian Andor series will begin shooting in October of 2019. Luna will first finish work on the second season of Narcos: Mexico prior to returning to the Star Wars galaxy.
Plot details remain under wraps, however, the new series will follow the Rebel spy working as an intelligence operative during the formative years of the Rebel Alliance before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which featured the demise of Luna’s character after helping to recover the Death Star plans.
Stephen Schiff (The Americans) will serve as showrunner for the upcoming Cassian Andor series which will join Lucasfilm’s other live-action series The Mandalorian exclusively on Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney+, which is expected to launch by the end of next year.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. Here’s the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian does not have an official release date, however, the series is expected to debut with Disney’s streaming service which is said to launch by the end of 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
