New Disney+ ‘Star Wars’ Series In Development With ‘Russian Doll’ Co-Creator

Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is developing a new Star Wars series for Disney+.

Variety reports that a new Star Wars series is currently in the work as Disney+ from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland. Details on the storyline of the developing show are currently under wraps, but the outlet’s sources say it will be a female-centric series set during a different period of the Star Wars timeline than previous entries in the franchise.

Leslye Headland, who also serves as the showrunner and executive producer of Netflix’s Russian Doll, is said to be attached to the new Star Wars series as a writer and showrunner. Representatives for Disney and Leslye Headland reportedly declined to comment on news of the new series, which is currently staffing.

Russian Doll premiered on Netflix in 2019 and received acclaim from viewers before earning 13 Emmy Award nominations for the first season, three of which it won. Half of the episodes in the 8-episode first season of Russian Doll were directed by Leslye Headland.

The new Star Wars series from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is just one of many projects Lucasfilm has planned for Disney+. A second of The Mandalorian has already completed production and Disney+ has reportedly ordered a third season.

Furthermore, Ewan McGregor is set to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new series centered on the exiled Jedi Master. Rogue One star Diego Luna will also return the franchise for a prequel to the standalone story centered on Cassian Andor in the early days of the rebellion against the Galactic Empire.

Are you excited to see what Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland has planned for the franchise? Let us know below and stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the Star Wars projects for Disney+ as it develops.
