In an interview promoting his upcoming film The Little Stranger, Gleeson was questioned about the level of passion within the Star Wars fanbase as well as addressing much of the toxic harassment that much of the sequel trilogy’s cast and crew – particularly Tran had been receiving. Gleeson was blunt with his answer:
“People having an opinion about the film is absolutely fine. You pay your money, and you’re allowed to have an opinion and you’re allowed to like it or dislike it.. The stuff with Kelly was bullshit. That’s a different thing all together, so those people are just morons. Those people are assholes. That’s a different level of stuff. You don’t buy that when you buy your tickets.”
Gleeson is the latest to come in defense of his co-star. The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson, Mark Hamill, John Boyega and Hayden Christensen have come out to show support for Tran. It’s always great to see much of the Star Wars family unite to show their love and support for one another.
Gleeson and Tran will reprise their roles as General Hux and Rose Tico respectively in Star Wars: Episode IX.
Directed by J.J. Abrams from a script written by Abrams and Chris Terrio, the film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, Carrie Fisher, Dominic Monaghan and Matt Smith.
Star Wars: Episode IX arrives in our galaxy on December 20, 2019.
