‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Box Office Prospects Have Improved

Due to a series of  studio restructurings and release date shifts, Star Wars: Episode IX‘s box office prospects have improved greatly.

The film is currently set for a December 20th, 2019 release date and most studios are smart enough not to try and compete with a Star Wars film. Many other films, however, were still set open close enough around the same time and  could have potentially hurt its box office haul. However, due to a series of delays and shifted release dates, this may no longer be the case.

With the delay of Wonder Woman: 1984 to June of 2020, the latest Terminator reboot has moved into its former November 1st slot. The film was originally set to be released on November 15th. In addition the next James Bond film has been moved from November 9th to February 14th of 2020 due to change in the film’s director.

In addition, thanks to the Disney/Fox deal, the latest Hercule Poirot film and sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, has been pushed back to October 22nd of 2020. The film was originally set to be released on the December 20th of 2019 and would have directly competed with Star Wars: Episode IX. This would have undoubtedly resulted in a quick death for Kenneth Branagh new take on the iconic detective.

The only film, strangely enough, that seems intent on sticking to its original release date is the untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel which is currently set to be released on December 13th of 2019. The previous film did surprisingly well in the holiday season of 2017, eventually surpassing Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the weekend box office once the new year began. Whether or not the film will manage to recapture that same lightning in the bottle, however, remains to be seen.

The next Star Wars film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russel, Matt Smith, Dominic Monaghan, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Mark Hamill.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters December 20, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
