Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, a series of shorts that focus on the women of the Star Wars franchise, will focus on "ordinary" stories of heroics.
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is the second animated Star Wars project produced under Disney, and appropriately to their decisions to expand the demographics of the franchise, these animated shorts will be targeting young girls. Writer Jennifer Muro has revealed her thoughts on that project and where she plans to take the series.
Den of Geek recently got to sit down with Muro to talk about Forces of Destiny. Muro noted that she really liked that she had the freedom to look at the entire Star Wars timeline instead of having to be restricted to a single period, since it allowed her to focus on the adventures of multiple heroines:
“Going into it, I want to represent everyday heroism and the heroic moments that shape these characters in different ways. Leia would handle a situation one way, Ahsoka another way, Jyn another way. That was the goal all along.”
Muro revealed that she was particularly excited to work with the characters of Ahsoka Tano (from The Clone Wars), Sabine Wren (from Rebels), and Jyn Erso (from Rogue One), and also noting that she was consulting with Dave Filoni, a former showrunner on both The Clone Wars and Rebels who is now in charge of Lucasfilm Animation as a whole.
Star Wars Forces of Destiny will feature the voices of Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Vanessa Marshall as Hera Syndulla, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Catherine Taber as Padmé Amidala, and Shelby Young as Leia Organa. The show will begin rolling out online in July on Disney’s official YouTube channel.
