‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ Trilogy Reportedly In Development At Lucasfilm

A film based on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game series has reportedly been green-lit and even has a writer already attached.

Star Wars fans have long since assumed that the Game of Thrones writers Star Wars film series would be based on the popular Knights of the Old Republic video game and it looks like that film is in development, but just with a different creative team. According to Buzzfeed, Laeta Kalogridis will write a film based on Knights of the Old Republic. The writer is already close to finishing her first script and is likely to be the first in a trilogy. If true, this would make Laeta Kalogridis the first woman to write a Star Wars film without a co-writer.

Knights of the Old Republic was a video game set 4000 years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. While Knights of the Old Republic probably won’t begin production for a few years, we have the final installment in the Skywalker saga to hold us off. What do you think of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic being developed as a film? Are you excited? Sound off in the comments section below!

The Skywalker saga will conclude with J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker later this year. However, Lucasfilm has plans for two new film series. The first one announced comes from The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson while another will be from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Rian Johnson is expected to write and direct the first of a new Star Wars trilogy outside of the Skywalker saga. The Game of Thrones creators are writing and producing a Star Wars series with new characters as well. Earlier this month, Bob Iger officially announced that the Game of Thrones creators are first up with a release date in December 2022.

Directed by J. J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher will appear as General Leia Organa through the use of previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released in theaters on December 19, 2019.
