Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy Confirms Knights Of The Old Republic Project Is In Development

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed a Knights of the Old Republic project is officially in development for the Star Wars franchise.

Speaking with MTV News, Kennedy was asked about a possible Knights of the Old Republic project directly when she confirmed there is a project officially on the table but remained tight-lipped on any further details. Details on future Star Wars films remain under wraps, however, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss are set to develop a new trilogy. The duo will work closely with Rian Johnson who is also developing a trilogy of his own. Together they will work to create the next saga in the Star Wars franchise.

In addition to confirming a Knights of the Old Republic movie, Kennedy also confirmed Lucasfilm is looking for female directors to helm entries in the franchise once its future is planned out. Lucasfilm has been criticized in the past for its lack of diversity amongst its directors. You can check out what Kennedy had to say in the video below.

On the horizon, Lucasfilm is set to conclude the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: Episode IX this December. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher will appear as General Leia Organa through the use of previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In addition to future film projects, Lucasfilm is also launching two live-action Star Wars television series on Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+. Diego Luna is set to reprise his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story role as Cassian Andor in a prequel series which will follow the Rebel spy working as an intelligence operative during the formative years of the Rebel Alliance. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian will feature Pedro Pascal as a lone gunslinger after the events of Return of the Jedi. The series which hails from Jon Favreau also stars Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte.
