‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Opens Second Place In China, Hits $1.2B Billion

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one of the biggest box office successes of all time. So, it’s no shock that Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: The Last Jedi would follow suit. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has officially made $1.205 Billion  globally at the box office as well as opened in second place in China. The Last Jedi earned $28.7 million in its opening weekend in China. While the latter is a minor setback the film is still a huge financial success.

It is alsoworth noting that The Force Awakens and Rogue One also opened in China to what was considered disappointing box office numbers. In fact, the Star Wars franchise as a whole has struggled to win over Chinese audiences at the box office, with the first six films of the saga failing to receive theatrical releases in the country until years later and only in some cases.

In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.
