While plot details still remain under wraps, the new series is set six years after Return of the Jedi will explore the Star Wars timeline between the original and sequel trilogies. The series is rumored to chronicle the restoration of Mandalore after the fall of the Empire following the Battle of Jakku.

The new series has been written by Jon Favreau who also serves as executive producer along with Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni, Colin Wilson, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Karen Gilchrist will co-executive produce. In addition to executive producing, Filoni has also been confirmed to direct the first episode with additional episodes helmed by Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
Here’s the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian will debut exclusively on Disney’s upcoming direct to consumer streaming service, which is expected to launch by the end of 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
