Boba Fett almost had a completely different storyline in the Star Wars sequels that was pitched by Mark Hamill.
There are so many iconic characters, weapons, vehicles, sound effects, and so on from the Star Wars franchise. One thing is undeniable though and that’s that Boba Fett is one of the most iconic characters in the entire franchise. Fans have been arguing over whether or not the character was cool ever since he fell into that Sarlaac Pit during the first act of Return of the Jedi. His send-off wasn’t as great as many fans would have liked but he almost had a completely different story altogether.
Mark Hamill recently took to Twitter to respond to an inquiry regarding whether or not it was true that he had pitched George Lucas a twist that would have revealed Boba Fett to be Luke’s mother. According to Hamill, he felt that revealing Boba Fett to be Luke’s mother would have been the only way to top the Vader twist at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Check out the Tweet from Hamill below to learn the full story.
Given the debates that stem from many aspects of the Star Wars franchise, it’s safe to say that this twist would’ve ruffled so many feathers that people would still be arguing about it today. Given the polarizing third installment of the series, Return of the Jedi, it may have been a step up for some fans but as Hamill himself said, Lucas wasn’t a fan of the idea. The fascinating twist will simply have to live on as an interpretation in the imagination of fans of the franchise.
