Star Wars: Mark Hamill Shares Surprising Origin Of Luke’s Iconic Lightsaber

Luke’s lightsaber in Star Wars: A New Hope has a surprising origin as series veteran Mark Hamill points out how it was made in the original film.

In the post, Mark Hamil shared an image which explained how the original lightsaber was created in Star Wars: A New Hope. According to Mark Hamill’s post, the original lightsaber was made from the handle of an old 1940s Graflex camera. Seven pieces of t-strip were then stuck to the bottom along with an illuminator strip from a calculator.

In his post, Mark Hamill mentions how George Lucas called the first Star Wars film “the most expensive low-budget movie ever made.” You can see his full post with a visual below:
