‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators’ ‘Star Wars’ Films May Explore The Old Republic

Star Wars News Net reports Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss could begin filming the first film of their Star Wars trilogy as early as this fall and the film may even be set during the Old Republic era.

According to the site, a source close to the production was approached to begin work on the first film from the Game of Thrones creators this fall and it will be set during the Old Republic in an effort to appeal to a wider, Game of Thrones-like audience.

The rumor should have Knights of the Old Republic and EU fans excited and the source reiterated the film would be set hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga, lending a medieval Lord of the Rings-like vibe to the Star Wars universe for the first time ever. The project appears to be in early preparation with concept art being designed as the script is being finished.

Previous reports have suggested Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have signed on to write and produce a total of three films in the Star Wars universe, though the official announcement from Lucasfilm went only as far to say the duo had been brought on board for a series of films. The Game of Thrones creators are expected to jump ship to Lucasfilm as soon as their work on the final season of the HBO hit fantasy series is complete.

Additional details on future Star Wars films from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have yet to be revealed. In addition to a trilogy from the Game of Thrones creators, Rian Johnson is also expected to begin developing his own Star Wars trilogy after he finishes Knives Out though no details have been revealed since the project was originally announced in November of 2017 and no timeline for production has been officially revealed.
