‘Star Wars’: Mashup Video Show Oscars Audience React To Jabba’s Palace Performance

A hilarious fan-made mashup video shows the audience at the Oscars reacting to an infamous band from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

One of the many derided changes made to the original Star Wars trilogy for the special edition involved the Max Rebo Band in Return of the Jedi. While the original version of the scene used puppets and a relatively more quiet song for the Max Rebo Band’s performance in Jabba’s palace, the special edition version of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi featured CGI band members and a considerably more obnoxious song.

Now, Twitter user “heathdwilliams” has created a mashup video that combines footage from the 2019 Oscars ceremony and the performance at Jabba’s palace. For those who may be unaware, the 2019 Oscars ceremony featured a performance by Eminem, who sang the Academy Award-winning song “Lose Yourself.” While many of the Oscars attendees were thrilled by the performance, others were visibly confused, likely due to the fact that song won the Academy Award back in 2002.

Now, fans can watch the Oscars audiences, which includes the confused Billie Eilish and Idina Menzel alongside the enthused Brie Larson and Kelly Marie Tran, reacting to the lambasted performance from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

What do you think of this Oscars / Star Wars mashup? How did you feel about the Oscars ceremony? Let us know below!

Lucasfilm’s plans for the Star Wars franchise include a second season of The Mandalorian, a show centered on Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, and a Rogue One prequel series focused on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. Meanwhile, fans still catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkers in theaters.

Lucasfilm and director J. J. Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the riveting conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.

Directed by J. J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher will appear as General Leia Organa through the use of previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now playing in theaters.
