‘Star Wars’: Tons Of Parents Named Their Kid ‘Kylo’ In 2016

It turns out that tons of parents named their kid 'Kylo' in 2016, after the primary antagonist from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The 2016 data for American baby names has been released, and it’s weird, to say the least. A lot of people like to name their kids after people that have been influential in their life, to move the legacy of the past forward and sometimes, people name their kids after fictional characters that murder their parents. It appears that the fastest-growing name for boys is ‘Kylo’, named after Kylo Ren, Darth Vader’s grandson formerly known as Ben Solo from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So if the example you want to set for your kids is that of a patricidal maniac then more power to you!

The name jumped in popularity from 2015 to 2016, where it went from 3,269 to 901 in just a year. Other pop-culture inspired names that were popular in 2016 include Creed, Benicio, Adonis, Fox, and Zayn. These names likely stem from Creed, The X-Files, and the band ‘One Direction’.

Other Star Wars names such as Finn jumped from obscurity in 2000 to relevance in 2016, where the name ranked 175. Unfortunately, Rey barely made a dent in the list for both males and females. Hopefully, her name gains more prominence in later years.

Would you name your kid Kylo? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Kylo Ren, Finn, and Rey will next be seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
