‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Has ‘A Different Perspective’, Says John Boyega

John Boyega claims that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to stand apart from the other movies thanks to the unique perspective of director Rian Johnson, who he praises.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly while promoting Detroit, Boyega explains that he thinks that The Last Jedi brings more variety to the Star Wars franchise than ever before:

“Being a different person comes with a different energy, a different perspective, and Rian definitely has his own unique style. Rian is just fun. Rian is just a fun guy. I have a feeling he is Santa Claus. I think Santa Claus is a part time director when it comes to December. He grows out the beard then does his thing, because he just so giving, he’s cheerful on set, and it’s always a fun time.”

Boyega explains that the key to the franchise’s continued relevance is that new directors come in to work on the movies:

“What people fail to understand sometimes is that the success of these stories that will stay with us long-term is to bring new ideas, is to expand the universe. So we can have new stories, new people, just a different perspective is awesome. [Rian] had a chance to really go crazy, and I’m a big Star Wars buff so certain things I saw I was just like ‘Well, that’s a first.’ And that, for me, is really cool to experience.”

The Last Jedi sounds like it has the potential to be the best Star Wars movie yet, and hopefully Boyega’s enthusiasm for the project will be supported by the fans when the film hits at the end of the year.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will rise on December 15, 2017. The movie’s cast includes Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Armitage Hux, Benicio Del Toro as “DJ”, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, and Jimmy Vee as R2-D2.
