Lucasfilm has announced Star Wars Rebels has officially been renewed for a fourth season. Phoenix Squadron continue the battle against the Empire this fall.
Season three introduced Grand Admiral Thrawn in new canon after the popular character was expunged along with former expanded universe which has now been rebranded as Legends. The remaining episodes of the third season will explore the birth of the Rebel alliance and feature Ben Kenobi in his time of exile on Tatooine as he goes up against Darth Maul in a rematch for the ages.
The recent Star Wars spin-off film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured several easter eggs from the series including multiple shots with the Rebels crew ship, The Ghost, Hera Syndullah’s name overheard on the Rebel bases intercom system, and even a cameo from the droid you love to hate, Chopper. Being that season three began two years out from Rogue One and it’s clear that at least some of the characters are still alive, it seems the story is far from over.
Star Wars Rebels was created by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Sherlock Holmes), and Carrie Beck. The Lucasfilm animated series is executive-produced by Filoni and Kinberg.
The series features the voice cast of Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Star Wars Rebels continues this fall on Disney XD.
