‘Star Wars’: Anakin’s Lightsaber Now Officially ‘Dubbed’ Rey’s

Lucasfilm story group executive Pablo Hidalgo has confirmed that the former lightsaber belonging to Anakin Skywalker has now been rebranded as Rey's.

Lucasfilm story group executive Pablo Hidalgo has confirmed that the former lightsaber belonging to Anakin Skywalker, later used by his son Luke, has now been rebranded as Rey’s.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the blue Kyber crystal inside the Skywalker lightsaber called out to Rey (Daisy Ridley) and offered her a vision upon making physical contact with the hilt, revealing to her Luke Skywalker’s past as well as a glimpse into her own future. The crystal later answered her call when she summoned the hilt before her duel with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). But in the closing moments of Episode VII, Rey extended the lightsaber to Luke Skywalker in a plea-turned-demand for the Jedi Master to teach her the ways of the force and help her restore balance to the galaxy.

While we don’t know exactly how Luke will respond to the demand in the opening moments of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it seems he won’t be taking that lightsaber back. In the latest issue of Vanity Fair (via The Star Wars Show), Hidalgo explained that the blue bladed saber is now officially Rey’s lightsaber:

“Either way, the blade is no longer considered Anakin’s lightsaber by the Lucasfilm marketing department. It has now been officially dubbed ‘Rey’s’.”

Fans will have to wait to see exactly how she hangs onto the blade and whether or not Luke still has his green bladed lightsaber first seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi when the Skywalker saga returns this Holiday season.

The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and Andy Serkis.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017, and stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
