In the tweet posted earlier today, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson confessed he’s “seen the light” with Spidey’s most recent animated outing and he thinks the movie made by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rotman “is truly next level stuff”. Rian Johnson even went on and declared that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is his “new favorite superhero movie”:
This is high praise coming from one of the most important directors working today. Rian Johnson directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi and now he’s been tapped to work on a new Star Wars trilogy where the Skywalkers aren’t involved with. All in all, not a bad critical reception for the movie, which just yesterday received the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film. It bested movies like Brad Bird’s The Incredibles 2 and Wes Anderson’s Isle Of Dogs.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has received critical acclaim for its outstanding and unique visual effects, its endearing yet engaging storytelling and for combining different Spider-Men (and women) into a well-thought story. In light of this success, a spin-off is already in the works featuring Gwen Stacy voiced by actress Hailee Steinfeld and Director Joaquim Dos Santos at the helm.
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, & Rodney Rothman from a script written by Phil Lord, Spider–Man: Into the Spider–Verse features the voice talents of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street,” bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.
