Check Out The Official Synopsis For ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

Over the past few days, we’ve learned a number of things about Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, including  some new details about the planet Jedha, a place of pilgrimage for those who believe in the force (remember, this movie is set before the events of the original trilogy), as well as Riz Ahmed’s Bodhi Rook, a character who starts off as a pilot for the Empire but ends up switching sides. With a brand new trailer set to premiere on Thursday, Disney has released an new synopsis for the movie:

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016.

That’s all we’ve got for now, but we’ll get a better idea of what to expect from the movie after the new trailer drops tomorrow during the 2016 Rio Olympics. Fingers crossed, we’ll also get a glimpse of Darth Vader in action. What do you guys think?
