‘Star Wars’: Shameik Moore Auditioned To Play Lando Calrissian

Before Shameik Moore was Miles Morales, there was a time he auditioned to be Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Shameik Moore has made huge waves in the movie industry this year. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was a huge critical and commercial success and this was partly due to his portrayal as Miles Morales. Moore stole the show, delivering great voice acting to bring Morales to the big screen. Before he was cast as Morales, the actor auditioned for the role of Lando Calrissian for Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. The role ended up going to Donald Glover before the two were fired. However, Moore did have a few words to share about that process in a recent intervie with The Hollywood Reporter. Here’s what he told the site:

I do not like auditioning. … I know what I bring to the table, and if you’re sitting down with me, and I’m reading your lines, and I’m giving you my take on the performance, and you’re interested in me already — if it doesn’t work out afterward, my feelings are hurt. … [Dope director] Rick [Famuyiwa], Kenya [Barris], Phil and Chris, RZA, these are the people that have believed in me and taken a chance.

It’s interesting to think what Moore could have done as Lando. Although Glover did a fantastic job, Moore could have had a different approach to the character. Even though he didn’t get the role, it’s definitely something audiences would like to see. Perhaps he can make an appearance in another Star Wars film? Whatever the case may be, Moore will always bring everything he has to the roles he’s given, always giving audiences a performance to remember.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
