Were you wondering where the inspiration for Supreme Leader Snoke’s throne room came from in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Hit the jump to find out.
In fact the Design Supervisor, Kevin Jenkins thoroughly explains the design influence in The Art Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi book.
“I thought, ‘How do you reinvent the throne room from Jedi?’ and Rian said, ‘I don’t want to reinvent the throne room from Jedi because it’s already been done. He always used the words ‘organic’ and ‘theatrical.’ Early on, the one thing that stuck was the heavy red with colonnade banners. It is part of the Ran/Kurosawa thing—the samurai influence. It’s a colonnade leading you to a dais and a chair. Rian didn’t mention Twin Peaks’s Black Lodge—the red room—but we all did in an art department meeting.”
I don’t want to spoil anything so I’m trying to say as little as possible. The throne room is a key location as it’s the setting of a major battle that takes place in The Last Jedi. The red hues highlighted all lightsabers in use perfectly and gave us some next level Return of The Jedi undertones. It’s one of my favorite set pieces of The Last Jedi.
