‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Locks Day & Date Release In China

The next Star Wars spin-off film following Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has received a release date in China, putting it on track with the rest of the world.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, chronicling the adventures of a young Han Solo, has been confirmed to be released in mainland China on May 25, putting the film’s release date alongside North America and most other territories receiving the film.

Though the original Star Wars franchise did not originally screen in China until many years after its original debut in other areas, it has begun receiving screenings in this territory, beginning in 2016 with The Force Awakens. Since its original 2016 release, that film went on to garner $124 million at the box office.

The series as a whole has not gained similar traction compared to Western territories, as evidenced by Rogue One’s $69.5 million or $42.7 million for The Last Jedi.

Directed by Ron Howard and with a screenplay from Jonathan and Lawrence Kasdan, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo.
