‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian’ Concept Art Reveals Alternate Look At Baby Yoda

Concept art showcasing “Baby Yoda” from Star Wars: The Mandalorian has been revealed.

Introduced in a shocking moment of the Star Wars show’s premiere, it is discovered that the bounty that the Mandalorian is seeking to claim is a 50-year-old infant of Yoda’s species. Since that species has never been named in over 40 years of Star Wars lore, and the character was not identified by name, fans have affectionately called this character “Baby Yoda” (even though, as the show takes place five years after Return of the Jedi, Yoda is one with the Force). To the delight of fans, the following episode of the series featured Baby Yoda doing adorable things and generally stealing the show from the Mandalorian himself.

The premiere was not screened in advance of the show’s release date due to how big a deal Baby Yoda’s existence is. Now that Baby Yoda is out of the bag, The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has revealed the character’s design online. While the look remains the same, the costume the little guy wears more closely resembles a poncho than robes:

Baby Yoda is likely to be the focus of the remainder of the plot of the show’s first season, so Star Wars fans will be sure to look forward to more interactions between him and the Mandalorian himself.

The Mandalorian is set after Return of the Jedi and will explore the Star Wars timeline between the original and sequel trilogies for the first time in live-action. Here’s the official synopsis:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian can only be watched on Disney Plus, which has so far only launched in a few countries. The series is released on a weekly basis, with the first two episodes of eight online. A second season of the Star Wars show is currently filming.
