‘Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker’ Scores Second-Best Christmas Day Box Office

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ruled the Christmas day box office with $32 million.

Forbes reports that Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker earned $32 million on Wednesday, topping the Christmas day box office in North America. It’s the second-best Christmas day haul behind 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which holds the record with $49 million. Both films were directed by J.J. Abrams.

The Rise of Skywalker has so far grossed $258.8 million at the domestic box office for a worldwide total of $516.8 million. The film, which is the final installment in the Skywalker saga, opened to mixed reviews as it currently has a 55% score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Last week, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker debuted to $176 million domestically, the lowest opening weekend of the Sequel Trilogy. The Force Awakens raked in $247 million four years ago while The Last Jedi brought in $220 million when it opened in 2018.
