Stephen Amell Lands First Post-‘Arrow’ TV Gig With Wrestling Series At Starz

Arrow star Stephen Amell has found his next project.

Deadline brings word that Arrow star Stephen Amell has signed on to star in Heels, a wrestling drama that has received an eight-episode order at Starz. Heels was written by Michael Waldron, a Rick and Morty writer who’s currently working on the Disney Plus Loki series. Mike O’Malley will serve as showrunner.

Here is the official logline for Stephen Amell’s Heels:

Heels is about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals — one of them played by Amell — war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel (Amell). But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

In the ring, Amell’s Jack Spade is the charismatic villain, or heel, of the Duffy Wrestling Association (DWA). In the real world, he’s its hard-working owner, a husband and father trying to make ends meet while fighting to realize his impossible dreams. He has the mind of an artist in the body of a warrior, and a Steve Jobs-ian need for perfection — and for control. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to build the DWA into an empire. Will he go so far as to risk his marriage, or his relationship with his brother?”

Heels marks Stephen Amell’s first post-Arrow project. Premiering this fall, Arrow season eight is expected to revolve around Oliver Queen’s deal with to The Monitor (played by LaMonica Garrett) and lead into Crisis on Infinite Earths, the next Arrowverse crossover event.

Plot details for the final season of Arrow are being kept under lock and key, but Stephen Amell is returning to conclude the series with a final 10-episode run sans co-star Emily Bett Rickards, who opted not to come back. However, Arrow season eight will feature Colin Donnell and Josh Segara reprising their roles as Tommy Merlyn and Adrian Chase, respectively.

The series stars Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Echo Kellum, Rick Gonzalez, Juliana Harkavy, Kirk Acevedo, Sea Shimooka and Katie Cassidy Rodgers.

Arrow season 8 premieres on October 15, 2019, on The CW. Stay tuned for the latest news on Arrow and Stephen Amell’s Heels!
