Sterling K. Brown Still Wants To Play Green Lantern Corps’ John Stewart

Sterling K. Brown is making it clear that he still wants to take on the role of John Stewart in DC's Green Lantern Corps movie.

DC’s Green Lantern Corps isn’t a project we’ve heard about in a while, but Sterling K. Brown is making it clear that he still wants to take on the role of John Stewart.

Back in January David S. Goyer confirmed the long-in-development Green Lantern film was still in development, despite the behind the scenes shake-up at Warner Bros. and DC Films. Goyer is attached to produce the project and write the screenplay for the film, along with Justin Rhodes (Contract Killers). While an actor has yet to be cast, many have thrown their name in the ring as contenders including Tyrese Gibson, Common, Trevante Rhodes, and Sterling K. Brown.

Brown originally made it known that he was vying for the role on the day that it was announced he was joining the cast of Marvel’s Black Panther. Despite having now played T’Challa’s uncle, Brown recently told Entertainment Tonight how much it would mean to him to land the titular superhero role of Green Lantern:

“I wouldn’t mind being the Green Lantern. It would be fun. I’ve been watching cartoons since I was a kid. There was a black man portraying the Green Lantern. To see someone who looked like me meant a lot.”

Green Lantern Corps will be written by Goyer and Rhodes along with DC creative chief officer Geoff Johns who is serving as executive producer on the project. The long in development Corps is rumored to be a buddy-cop movie with an older, experienced Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern training the young recruit John Stewart in the ways of the Corps.

The project is one of the many in-development projects at Warner Bros. along with The Batman, a Flash standalone film, The New Gods, Man of Steel 2, Nightwing, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens, Batgirl, Black Adam, Booster Gold, Justice League Dark, and a standalone Joker origin film separate from the shared cinematic universe, Suicide Squad 2, Birds of Prey, and Blackhawk.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Green Lantern Corps as we learn it.
