‘Stranger Things’ Producer Teases ‘Darker Threats’ In Season 2

Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy has teased that the upcoming second season of the Netflix smash hit — Stranger Things 2 — will include darker threats than we saw in the first season of the sci-fi horror series.

While in attendance at Netflix’s FYSee space, Levy told CNN that the people of Hawkins, Indiana will face “more and darker threats” while still reeling from the events of season one.

When Stranger Things picks up one year later in the fall of 1984, the series will explore the consequences of Will’s time spent in the upside down as well as the interdimensional gate which is still open at the Department of Energy. Not only is the world itself now turning upside down, the Super Bowl teaser revealed a giant spider-like monster looming over Hawkins a la War of the Worlds.

But Levy went on to add that the characters struggle to return to a sense of normalcy after discovering parallel dimension home to the Demogorgon is a major part of the second season:

“Trauma is a major theme and frankly the return to normalcy. Is normal ever possible again in Hawkins? In the Byers family? In the Wheeler family? … That’s a big question that looms over Season 2.”

Given the stakes are going to be raised higher as the entire town will be threatened by what lurks in the shadow realm next, the chance that the kids will be able to go back to a completely normal life — playing D&D in the Wheeler’s basement is unlikely.

The adventure continues in the fall of 1984 as the world is turning upside down. Stranger Things 2 hits Netflix this Halloween.
