‘Stranger Things’ Confirms The Mind Flayer’s Return In Season 3

The return of the Stranger Things big bad, the Mind Flayer, has been confirmed thanks to the official Stranger Things companion book titled “Worlds Turned Upside Down”.

While Eleven sealed off Hawkins and closed the gate to the Upside Down in the Stranger Things 2 finale, the Mind Flayer has been previously confirmed as the main villain to return in future seasons beyond the second. While Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy has teased the upcoming third season will deal with new forces of evil, Levy confirmed the monster’s return in the epilogue of the new companion book from Netflix and Century Books:

“The Mind Flayer hasn’t lost interest in Hawkins either. The tentacled creature continues to loom near Hawkins inside the Upside Down, and its malevolent influence isn’t absent from the new season. “We ended season two with a clear signal that the Shadow Monster was not eliminated, and maybe he’s even identified his foe,” says [producer Shawn] Levy. “And that darkness, and the battle that it will require, grows in season three.”

Plot details remain under wraps, however, the new season takes place almost one year after Stranger Things 2, during the summer of 1985. The series is currently in its final block of filming for the third season and set to debut on the streaming service sometime in the summer of 2019.

Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, and Dacre Montgomery. New additions to the cast for season three include Cary Elwes, Jake Busey, and Francesca Reale.

Stranger Things 3 hits Netflix next Summer. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the third season of Stranger Things as we learn it.
