‘Stranger Things’ Star David Harbour Didn’t Think The Netflix Show Would Be A Hit

David Harbour recently revealed that he didn’t think Netflix’s Stranger Things would work when he first took the role of Chief Hopper.

The Stranger Things star admitted in a new interview that he originally didn’t think the Netflix show would actually be a hit. The show is currently in production of its fourth season, with fans desperate to know what happened to Hopper at the end of the last season. While audiences across the world fell in love with Stranger Things thanks to the monsters, alternate dimensions and the constant throwbacks to eighties pop culture, David Harbour said he and the cast originally weren’t sure that the supernatural horror series would work at all.

In a new interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, David Harbour revealed that he and the rest of the Stranger Things cast were initially unsure on how the show would be received. The Stranger Things star also revealed that after talking with a friend he thought that Netflix were going to bury the show because they hated it. Clearly David Harbour couldn’t be more wrong as the Netflix show was an overnight success. Take a look at what David Harbour said in the interview below.

“I was sure it was going to be a big disaster and complete failure. Because before it came out, I mean remember when we were shooting too we would sit around talking about how terrible it was going to be. Mainly because of my performance, I thought I was tanking the whole show. Before it came out – normally you see things on buses – I live in New York, on phonebooths there’s ads for new shows. Not a single ad. A week before the show I was doing a play with a friend of mine who’s on a very successful television program – and I said to him ‘no ads, I guess they’re doing some kind of new campaign’ and he said ‘no they’re burying the show’”
