Squad, which also topped VideoScan’s dedicated Blu-ray sales ranking, was one of four new releases this week, along with Ben-Hur, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Bridget Jones’ Baby. It knocked the previous weekend leader, the animated The Secret Life of Pets, to the number two spot. They’re followed by the aforementioned Miss Peregrine’s, Jason Bourne, and Finding Dory. 60 percent of sales for the comic book action movie were Blu-rays.
Despite scathing reviews that it rightfully earned, the supervillain team-up continues to flex its muscles in the marketplace, whether its at the box office where it was a success, if not a smash, or here on home video. While a sequel is in development, the hellish production has put the villainess-centric spinoff Gotham City Sirens at the fore, with Margot Robbie and David Ayer returning to star and direct respectively.
