‘Suicide Squad’ Is IMDb’s Most Popular Movie Of 2016

IMDB has revealed its list of most popular movies of 2016, with David Ayer's Suicide Squad coming in at the number one spot.

With 2016 coming to an end, IMDb has revealed its list of the most popular movies of the year, which includes five of this year’s six superhero movies (unfortunately, Doctor Strange didn’t make the cut), with David Ayer’s Suicide Squad at the very first spot. Here’s what the site had to say about the DC movie:

“Anticipation was high for the first big-budget movie lead by supervillains. All the signs were good with a cast that included Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker and Margot Robbie as the baseball bat-wielding troublemaker Harley Quinn. Robbie stole the show and the film helped position her as IMDb’s top star of 2016. And while there were naysayers for the film, written and directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad took more than $745 million at the worldwide box office and made it the most popular movie on IMDb in 2016.”

The list features several of this year’s biggest blockbusters, but the top five movies were all based on Marvel and DC characters. Disney’s live-action Jungle Book movie — which grossed 966.5 million at the worldwide box office– came in at number five, followed by Sony’s The Magnificent Seven and the female-driven Ghostbusters reboot. Warcraft and The Legend of Tarzan rounded up the top ten. Here’s the full list:

  1. Suicide Squad
  2. Captain America: Civil War
  3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
  4. Deadpool
  5. X-Men: Apocalypse
  6. The Jungle Book
  7. The Magnificent Seven
  8. Ghostbusters
  9. Warcraft
  10. The Legend of Tarzan
