Deadline reports that Disney has decided to bring James Gunn back as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn was fired from the project this past July after offensive tweets he wrote years ago resurfaced, but Walt Disney Studios president Alan Horn decided to give him a second change because of how he handled the whole situation.
According to Deadline, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t begin production until Gunn is completely finished with The Suicide Squad, which is expected to start filming this September. The filmmaker had completed his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and production was scheduled to begin earlier this year before the project was put on hold after his firing.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Sean Gunn. The Guardians themselves are expected to appear next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this April in Avengers: Endgame. Here’s the synopsis to Avengers: Endgame:
After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, Josh Brolin and Chris Pratt.
Avengers: Endgame is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 26, 2019. Stay tuned for more updates on that project and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
