‘Suicide Squad’ Replaces ‘Iron Man’ In The Top 50 Highest Grossing Domestic Films Of All Time

Iron Man was Marvel’s introduction to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as such the movie ended up being a smash hit. Old shell head has held the 50th spot in the list of top 50 highest grossing domestic films of all time for quite some time, but DC and David Ayer’s team of villains has just passed Tony Stark for the prestigious 50th spot. Despite negative critical reviews, Suicide Squad has been raking in the cash both domestically ($319 million) and internationally ($731 million) and has more than earned their spot at number 50.

Take a seat Stark, the Squad is here. Suicide Squad will be joining other super hero power players like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (#46 w/ $331 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy (#45 w/ $333 million) on the list of top grossing domestic films. This is no small accomplishment, especially for a film that was completely panned by critics and doesn’t star Batman – even though he was still in it for a couple minutes. Up next? Passing Michael Bay’s Transformers for the 49th spot.

Since the summer was weak in terms of high grossing films, there is a good chance Suicide Squad‘s numbers will continue to grow as it is still playing in some theaters. Also, with a number as high as $319 million, a sequel is almost a guarantee. Let’s just hope its continuation is better than the sequels Tony Stark was given.

Are you surprised that Suicide Squad is doing so well at the box office still? And are you looking forward to an almost inevitable sequel? Make sure to let us know down in the comments!
