‘Suicide Squad’ Star Jared Leto Jokes About A Possible Joker Return

Suicide Squad star Jared Leto jokes about the potential for his return as The Joker in a future Warner Bros. Pictures' DCEU Film.

One of the most divisive parts of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was Jared Leto’s new take on Batman’s iconic arch-nemesis and Harley Quinn’s “Puddin,” The Joker. Following Heath Ledger’s iconic representation of the role, Leto’s Joker was a bit too much for some, and even if you did like his take, the character just wasn’t in the movie enough (whether you liked his version or not, Joker really should have been the primary antagonist that the titular supervillain team went up against). For a character as key to the DC Comics universe as The Joker, we’ve heard surprisingly little about the Future of the clown Prince of Crime in Warner Bros.’ DCEU.

While speaking to ET Canada, Jared Leto joked about the return of Mr. J in a future DC film. Here’s what he said:

“Talking about Joker is like talking about Fight Club: unless you want to gargle your testicles, it’s probably better to leave it. He’s liable to jump out of the cupboard and just start having fun.”

There’s a number of possibilities for a return of Leto’s Joker. The character could potentially return in the sequel to Suicide Squad, David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens or even Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

While it’s still uncertain who will be returning for the sequel, the first Suicide Squad film starred Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Cara Delevingne as June Moone/Enchantress, Jared Leto as The Joker and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

No release date has been set for Suicide Squad 2, but earlier this week, Warner Bros. announced release dates for two mystery DCEU films in 2020, so perhaps one of them will be reserved for the sequel.
