‘Suicide Squad’ Wins An Academy Award

David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' wins the Academy Award in the category for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Only superhero film to win tonight.

Suicide Squad won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the awards ceremony tonight. It’s the first award for the film.

In the same category was another sci-fi film, Star Trek Beyond, which also had impressive makeup and hairstyles. Sadly, these kinds of films never receive nominations in other categories outside of technical awards. But, it’s nice to see a supehero genre film like Suicide Squad get some kind of recognition in a category.

Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.  U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do.  However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Do you think Suicide Squad deserved the award for best makeup and hairstyling? Would you have liked to see another film win? Let us know in the comments below!

Suicide Squad is available on Blu-Ray and DVD now.
