‘Supergirl’ Executive Producer Calls Jon Cryer The ‘Best Lex Luthor Ever’

The CW’s Supergirl is getting a very exciting addition to its rogue’s gallery that showrunners ensure fans will “go crazy” over. The introduction to iconic businessman/villain Lex Luthor to the Arrowverse was only a matter of time.

Supergirl showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner sat down with Variety to talk about Two and a Half Men actor Jon Cryer and what his background will bring to the role.

“Epic. He’s so incredibly talented. His dramatization of Lex is grounded and emotional.” says Rovner.

Who doesn’t like a villain who’s grounded in reality with flaws and emotions? It’s probably why the fans were drawn to characters like The Joker and Magneto. Lex Luthor, however, is a character we have seen many versions of, so of course, they were also asked what makes him different from past versions.

“Hilarious. In our estimation he’s the best Lex Luthor ever. We might be biased, but he’s the most masterful actor. He’s just exhilarating as Lex. I can’t overstate how thrilled we are with him.” says Queller.

We’ve seen many actors leave their bread and butter roles to explore other characters that present a challenge. Cryer is known for his more comedic roles and this might actually benefit him as the relentless Luthor who can turn on a switch.

“He’s powerful, he’s devious, he’s funny, he turns on a dime. His dynamic with Katie [McGrath, who plays his on-screen sister,] Lena, is just so great. We think the audience is going to go crazy when they see his performance.” says Queller.
