Red Son is an iconic Superman Elseworlds story from Mark Millar, the writer of Kick-Ass, The Secret Service, and many more. The story saw Kal-El’s ship landing at a Ukranian farm instead of the Kent farm in Kansas that we all know and love. If you’re a fan of the Red Son story then you may want to start watching Supergirl because the storyline is arriving in a very different way.
Not too long after Kara (Melissa Benoist) battled the supervillain Reign (Odette Annable), a clone of Kara was formed in Siberia, resulting in the new character Red Daughter. If you’ve watched the show, you know that Red Daughter is a much different role from Kara, so it probably has to take some hard work to differentiate between both versions of the character. While speaking with Comicbook.com, Benoist discussed how she switches from role to role when need be.
“It’s all about the circumstance. Someone with the powers that a Kara Zor-El has, you have to really think about the way they were nurtured, where they came from, and their circumstances of becoming a superhero. Overgirl obviously [came from] a Third Reich-type scenario, so she was not using her powers for good and we all know Kara Zor-El, Kara Danvers iteration very well and that is who she is. Red Daughter, it’s really fun to play with this.
They way we’re developing her this season is we’re sort of seeing how she’s nurtured and how she becomes who she is. So I kind of get to discover it as we go this season. It’s fun. I’ve not been able to do that outside of doing it with Kara Danvers.”
That won’t be the only new version of Supergirl that fans will be seeing this year. The upcoming Arrowverse Elseworlds crossover event will feature very different versions of some of your favorite Arrowverse heroes. Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and even Supergirl will be going through some pretty major makeovers for the event.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Supergirl as soon as more information becomes available. What are your thoughts on The CW adapting the Red Son storyline?
