Superman Star Christopher Reeve Dons ‘Kingdom Come’ Suit In New Image

One of the most acclaimed Superman comic book stories is found in the four-issue Elseworlds miniseries, Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross. Kingdom Come is beloved by many fans for its compelling story by Waid as well as some of the iconic artwork from Ross, which includes an alternate Superman suit design. This design of one of the most iconic characters in pop culture history has inspired many fans to incorporate it in their own artwork, which is the case here in this mashup with Christopher Reeve.

Christopher Reeve portrayed Superman in four different films from 1978 to 1987. His performances in Superman: The Movie and Superman II in particular are incredibly iconic, with many critics and audiences still considering Christopher Reeve as the definitive live-action portrayal of the Man of Steel.

An artist utilized the likeness of Christopher Reeve as seen from his Superman films and implemented it to the design of the Kingdom Come suit. What’s interesting about this particular mashup is that the design is meant to ape the style of the Christopher Reeve era suit rather than modernizing it to reflect the aesthetic in the Henry Cavill/DC Extended Universe era of Superman:

Can you imagine how interesting it would’ve been to see Christopher Reeve in an adaptation of Kingdom Come? It would be interesting to see a reality in which this were to happen. Who knows. Maybe the DCEU will bring not only the suit, but the Kingdom Come story to life in the DCEU. It would certainly be interesting to see that happen, especially with the expected success of Shazam! on the horizon for the franchise.

Although the next Superman film hasn’t been announced or slated yet, or if Henry Cavill will reprise his role, Supergirl is one of the many projects being developed over at Warner Bros. and DC. The studio has tasked Oren Uziel to pen the script. Meanwhile, Superman is still rumored to cameo in the Shazam! movie, but it’s unclear if it will be Henry Cavill in the role.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, DC Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Honsou.
